Beirut explosion - A devastating blast in the city of Beirut

and I am back with another post on my blog. 

From the title, you must have understood what I am going to talk about in this post. So, let's get started.

So, many of you might be knowing that on the fourth of this month that is the 4th of August, a huge blast/explosion took place in the city of Beirut, the capital of Lebanon (A country in West Asia).

As you can see in the video above, that how devastating this blast was. This blast was so big that it was also felt in Turkey, Syria, Israel, and also in some parts of Europe. Due to all this Now, this blast is considered as the most powerful non-nuclear explosion in history.


How and Why did this blast Occur?

After reading the things above the first thing that came to your mind may be, how and why did this blast occur? 

So, the answer to this question is Ammonium Nitrate (NH4NO3), on the 4th of August around 2750 tonnes of Ammonium Nitrate stored in the city of Beirut accidentally exploded causing around 180 Deaths and around a total of 6,000 injuries. It is said that this 2750 tonnes of ammonium nitrate was stored in a warehouse without proper safety measures from the past six years, after having been confiscated by the Lebanese authorities from the abandoned ship MV Rhosus.

What made the Ammonium Nitrate explode?

Now you all might think, How all of a sudden this large amount of Ammonium Nitrate exploded?

The answer to this question is still not known, suggested reasons include; an attack or a fire in the ammunition factory but the investigation is still going on.

After-effects of this explosion.

After the blast was finished, the Lebanese Government immediately declared a 2-week state of emergency. It was found that a property damage of around US$11-15 billion had occurred and around 3,00,000 people were left homeless. Also, protests were erupted against the Government for there failure of preventing the disaster.
On the10th of August, due to these protests and mounting political pressure due to the event, Prime Minister Hassan Diab of Lebanon and the Lebanese cabinet resigned.
